Argentina and The Glaciers
Sun 30 May 2010, 17:34 3 Comment(s) Report AbuseWell, I decided to go to Argentina many years after buying the travel guide and what a pleasant surprise. The people were friendly, I felt safe and the weather was great. I arrived in Buenos Aires and was met by the transfer company and taken to my hotel near Galerias Pacificas. Jetlagged I decided to take a walk which did not last too long as I could not keep my eyes open. So, I retired to the hotel and decided to leave the sightseeing for the next day.
I thought I would practice speaking Spanish but it seemed like everyone spoke english, so I succumbed to english.
After a few days in Buenos Aires I went to Iguazu where the weather was hot and humid like Durban. I loved every bit of it. The tourguide then said I could not go to the Brazilian side of the Falls as I required a visa as I was South African. Well, he was wrong adn the next day, I was taken on a private tour of the Brazilian side of Iguazu. It was fantastic. The hotel was located right on tres fonteras and I could see Brazil, Paraguay and Argentina from the balcony. I enjoyed a boat ride under the falls which was like being on a ride at an amusement park-it set your heart racing. Then it was off to Calafate and the glaciers. a short hiking trip on the Perrito Moreno (the biggest of them all) and a boat trip to all 6 glaciers was amazing. When the glaciers calve, it does sound like thunder. I began to wonder if global warming is really as bad as they say it is or is this all part of nature and the way it is supposed to be, mmm. Then it was back to BA and a short visit to Evita´s grave. Don´t we have any graves to visit here in South Africa?
Now I am back in South Africa and out of all the countries I have bee to in the world, I can say that I will go back to Argentina.
